RE: Diffusion MR Imaging of Postoperative Bilateral Acute Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

چکیده
Dear Editor: We read with great interest, the case report on ischemic optic neuropathy (1). We would like to add a few points concerning the blood supply of the optic nerve and the correlation with the development of post-operative ischemic neuropathy. Actually, the perioperative or post-operative vision loss (postoperative ischemic neuropathy) is most likely due to ischemic optic neuropathy. Ischemic optic neuropathy (2) is classified as an anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) and posterior ischemic optic neuropathy (PION). This classification is based on the fact that blood supply (2) to the anterior segment of the optic nerve (part of the optic nerve in the scleral canal and the optic disc) is supplied by short posterior ciliary vessels or anastamotic

Diffusion MR Imaging of Postoperative Bilateral Acute Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
A 57-year-old woman experienced bilateral acute ischemic optic neuropathy after spine surgery. Routine MR imaging sequence, T2-weighted image, showed subtle high signal intensity on bilateral optic nerves. A contrast-enhanced T1 weighted image showed enhancement along the bilateral optic nerve sheath. Moreover, diffusion-weighted image (DWI) and an apparent diffusion coefficient map showed mark...
متن کاملDiffusion MR imaging in a case of acute ischemic optic neuropathy.
The purpose of this case report is to show the diagnostic potential of diffusion-weighted MR imaging in establishing the presence of ischemic optic neuropathy (ION). We report the MR imaging findings in a patient presenting with acute ION in whom diffusion imaging showed decreased water mobility as seen in patients with acute brain ischemia.

A 6-year-old neutered female Jack Russell terrier was investigated for sudden onset prechiasmatic bilateral blindness, left circling, reduced proprioception in the right pelvic limb and right facial allodynia. Electroretinography was normal. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination revealed that the right optic nerve and the optic chiasm were hyperintense on diffusion weighted imaging and h...

Purpose To report a case of bilateral central retinal artery occlusion with both anterior and posterior ischemic optic neuropathy. Observations A 65-year-old Caucasian woman presented with acute respiratory distress syndrome and septic shock. After treatment with vasopressors and prolonged prone positioning, she was noted to be bilaterally completely blind on hospitalization day 12. Evaluatio...
متن کاملIntraorbital optic nerve signal hyperintensity on magnetic resonance imaging sequences in perioperative hypotensive ischemic optic neuropathy.
A 61-year-old man experienced severe bilateral posterior ischemic optic neuropathy after cardiac bypass surgery. Routine magnetic resonance imaging sequences were normal, but diffusion-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequences showed abnormal hyperintensity within both intra-orbital optic nerves. This imaging abnormality has not been previously reported in this setting.
